12 - Flagship 1 Assignment

Your assignment in the course is to carry out a digital forensics investigation in an imaginary case scenario and to prepare a learning diary of the observations and experiences you made during the course. The IT investigation consists of smaller hands-on exercises that take you forward with the tasks. To complete the tasks, you have been provided with digital evidence from the crime scene. By processing the evidence, you are expected to be able to form an overall picture of the cyber attack.

The course assignment is performed independently from your own workstation. For the assignment you must have Microsoft Word and Oracle Virtual Box version 6.1.x installed on your workstation. You can find the installation file and instruction manual for VirtualBox on the manufacturer's website at https://www.virtualbox.org/. In the future, VirtualBox is needed in the course to build the investigation environment and to process the digital evidence collected from the crime scene.

The learning diary included in the course assignment is prepared using a pre-defined report template. The completed learning diary will be returned by e-mail to cs4e-flagship@jamk.fi with the subject “OOC task”. The deadline for completing the course is December 18th at 23:59 (EET, UTC + 2), after which the returned work will not be taken into account in the evaluation. Those who have submitted their answers by the deadline will be given feedback on the course performance.
